BRITISH CAN`T PROTECT THE ARTEFACTS!

BRITISH CAN`T PROTECT THE ARTEFACTS!

British museum is a grand institution also a shinning symbol of wide ranging thefts. Its world’s biggest receiver of stolen property.?From the 16th to the 20th century, the British went on a colonization spree. They ravaged nation after nation and stole their culture. They looted around 8 million artifacts. The list included India`s Kohinoor diamond, Nigeria`s bronze plaques and decapitated dried Maori heads. All were displayed in British museum. ?They have been urged to return what they have stolen. But they haven’t and they don’t plan to. Instead they ticket the world proudly to let them view the loot. Now the British has locked up the legacy of other lands. Recently gold, jems and jewelry of 15th to 19th century was stolen by one of the staff member. The suspected staff has been fired.?In 2004, 15 pieces of Chinese jewelry were stolen from the museum. In 2002, a 2500 year old Greek Marble head was taken.?

Artifact thefts are very common. Last year 500 ancient gold coins were stolen from a German museum. In 2019, Jules worth 108 million dollars were stolen from another German museum. Despite security museum suffer robberies. This happen every year across the world.?According to the latest art loss register700 000 antiques and collectibles are currently lost or stolen. Such thefts happening institutions as large as a British museum, they hold monumental objects. They chronicle entire civilizations and help us understand them. Like the Rosetta stone it enabled researchers to understand ancient Egypt. It was part of the British loot. Now its inside the glass case.?Artifacts like these worth hundreds of millions of dollars. So the museum cannot afford to be caught off guard because we know what comes next. Most of the stolen items are sold in the market or even melted down.

In 2005, it happened to Henry Moore sculpture. It was worth about four million dollars but it was melted down and sold for less than 2000 dollars. It`s criminal. These museum hold world`s history hostage. They contain what is not theirs. They fail to protect it. Countries like Greece, India, Ethopia, Nigeria and Gana says that these artifacts are theirs.?They should be returned. Museum response was that these countries lack the infrastructure to protect such expensive historic items. The British museum is not doing great job either. In fact it reeks of entitlement. It has withheld stolen spoils and makes up excuses to keep them.?The second excuse is that the museum refuses to agree that most of its keep is stolen. The argument is stealing is not really stealing, if you are taking something that is lying around.

The crime committed by British colonizers is undeniable. They stole from the whole world and now a large part of cultural heritage lies unprotected in their museum.?For decades England had gone away with it and rigged in tourism revenue. The Museum`s trustees are comfortable and in no more to return whats not theirs. But what Government experts say. Most disputed artifacts will have to be returned if the government really chooses too.?The U.S, Germany, Belgium and France they all are doing it. They are returning the loot. But England remains bullheaded. Britain cannot write historical wrongs but it must stop profiting from them and not make excuses for theft.
