British Airways Data Breach - CCV's taken as well!

It's worrying to see that in this instance the CCV numbers have also been compromised, which of course will not have been stored by BA due to regulation on how this data is handled.

What data was stolen?

"It was name, email address, credit card information - that would be credit card number, expiration date and the three digit [CVV] code on the back of the credit card," said BA boss Mr Cruz.

There is the potential for this breach to have significant impact on those customers who had their data compromised, given the level of data taken.

It will be interesting to see how the Information Commissioner's Office view this breach in light of GDPR.

Let's hope that investigation can highlight quickly what happened, so that steps can be taken to prevent this type of incident again.

BA have certainly acted quickly, advising those affected and offering compensation where appropriate.
