One of the main reasons I moved 300 miles to live in Bristol was to be based in a city that has a thriving culture of art and creativity. After seeing Bristol Light Festival 2024 I know I made the right choice.
The bad news is that it has already been a week since Bristol Light Festival 2024 came to a close. The good news is that we're one week closer to Bristol Light Festival 2025!
This was my first time seeing the festival and after experiencing the installations I am already looking forward to the next one! I gave myself just one evening to get through all the installations and I regret not giving myself more time. You could spend an entire day going around and taking it all in.
Bristol Light Festival offered 10 locations around Bristol, all unique and embodying the creative culture in the city.
The first installation I visited was Ascendance by Studio McGuire. The queue ended up being around 30 minutes and you only got 5 minutes to see it. Huge crowds swarmed through the city centre streets to see this installation, showing the thriving culture of art enthusiasts in Bristol.

As I walked in a calm violin echoed around the church. The visuals are projected right up to the ceiling, forcing you to take in the scale of the building, almost like you're looking up at the stars.
Seeing the installations use unique and artistic designs brought me straight back to my time at university when I was studying Digital Art and Technology. My final year project was in live media design which involved creating an interactive 360 short film that was projected in the IVT on the 英国普利茅斯大学 Campus.
My favourite installation at this year's festival was Emergence by This is Loop .
Thank you to all the teams involved in the festival for bringing all the installations together and giving Bristol a brilliant and free experience! You can find out more about the festival here: https://bristollightfestival.org/
