Bristol Arena Applications Submitted

CSJ Planning Consultants acting for Bristol City Council has formally submitted planning applications for the Arena Island site (Former Diesel Depot) adjacent to Bristol Temple Meads.

A full application has been submitted for the 12,000 capacity arena building with new open space plaza, parking, landscaping and additional footpath links. (15/06069/F)

An outline application has been submitted for a phase 2 mixed use village of shops, restaurants, offices and homes up to 19,000 square meters (15/06070/P)

The applications have been submitted with an Environmental Statement produced and co-ordinated by CSJ.

The main professional team acting for Bristol City Council major projects are CSJ; Populous; Feilden Clegg Bradley; and Buro Happold.

It is anticipated that the applications will be determined in March 2016 with the Arena scheduled for opening in 2018. CSJ were appointed in March 2015 to act as planning agents on this important Bristol regeneration project.

Andrew Beard (Director) said – “This is an important milestone on the road to delivering an Arena for Bristol and also completing the regeneration of the Island site with the creation of a fantastic new destination space within the heart of the city and the enterprise zone. The scheme will also be an important catalyst within Temple Quarter with major indirect benefits in terms of investment, jobs and new city facilities. It provides a clear sustainable vision to provide the Arena in the city centre maximising public transport, cycling, walking and integrating with other planned infrastructure improvements.”

All the best sites always come back! Seems like a long time since I wrote a Transport Assessment for this site in 2004 for...... an Arena!

Let's hope it's big and bashy! Something that puts Bristol on the entertainment map! Such an overdue need for the city. Really exciting!
