Brisbane World First | Air Taxis for the Olympics.
"The Jetsons" was one of my favourite childhood cartoons. If you are of my vintage, about half a decade ago, this prophetic show showed what is now rapidly becoming a reality.
Families living in apartment skyhomes and air taxi's buzzing them to and from their commutes.?Brisbane may now be the first city in the world to follow "The Jetsons" with air taxi's currently on track to be the main mode of transport in time for the 2032 Olympics.
Overcoming?traffic congestion, air??taxis use innovative technology that?combines vertical takeoff and landing capabilities with electric propulsion systems.?These vehicles are designed to provide efficient and convenient urban transportation solutions as they can take off and land vertically, eliminating the need for long runways.
The main governing body Airservices Australia says ‘Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games will be catalysing event for air taxis’, with 60m drone flights of all types expected by 2043.
Already, an air traffic control system for drones is being built? as authorities prepare for a surge in uncrewed aircraft flights and flying taxis over the next decade.
Airservices Australia – the federal government agency responsible for managing airspace across the country ?– has appointed air traffic management company Frequentis Australasia to develop a “digital air traffic management to safely integrate millions of uncrewed aircraft flights into Australia’s busy airspace”.
This month,?Australian developer Skyportz released the images of the vertiport on the Brisbane River at the annual Advanced Air Mobility summit held on the Gold Coast.
The renders show the vertiport moored off the northern bank of the Brisbane River, near one of the city’s tallest towers, 1 William Street.
?
Chief executive Clem Newton-Brown said they believed that natural aviation corridors such as river were the “lowest hanging fruit for retrofitting vertiports into urban areas”.
“While there are a small number of cities around the world that have developed rooftop helipads, they are not the easiest places to safely land aircraft,” he said.
“There are usually better options, particularly in waterfront cities”.
