Yuha Jin is the dynamic CEO and co-founder of Tella, an innovative online English education startup headquartered in Seoul, Korea. Tella, which is short for "TellAfreeca," was founded with the unique social mission to create knowledge-based jobs for university-educated youth in East African countries.
Before embarking on the Tella journey, Yuha gained valuable experience working in social ventures and early-stage startups. She has emerged as a formidable changemaker, impacting both the economy of East Africa and the global online education industry through her entrepreneurial endeavors.
During a visit to East Africa, Yuha witnessed an Africa vastly different from the one depicted in the media. She observed hundreds of thousands of university graduates who could fluently speak two to three languages. Despite their impressive linguistic skills and academic achievements, many were either unemployed or underemployed. This stark reality inspired Yuha to push for the creation of knowledge-based jobs, which she believes are crucial not only for providing livelihoods but also for fostering economic development. According to Yuha, these educated individuals have the potential to become future leaders and the backbone of their countries' economic growth by applying their knowledge and skills pragmatically.
Tella has made significant strides under her leadership. The platform now boasts over 100,000 users across 60 countries and has secured global clients, including industry giant Samsung. Remarkably, Tella has created more than 100 full-time jobs in Africa, with its tutors earning up to 300% more than the average university graduate in the region. This phenomenal impact has led to Tella being certified as a B Corp and gaining support from prominent global VCs, as well as international organizations such as KOICA and UNDP.
Yuha Jin's vision and dedication continue to drive Tella's success, making a meaningful difference in the lives of many and advancing the global online education landscape.
