Bringing Wind Propulsion Back To Our Ships To Reduce Emissions

Sometimes when you are editing, you read something that makes you stop in surprise. That’s what happened when I was editing Brian Blum ’s excellent story on NayamWings , a startup that has modified airplane technology and brought it to ships, in an effort to harness wind power and reduce emissions.
The technology is exciting, but what really floored me was the fact that 15 of the world’s biggest ships have more emissions than all the cars on the planet put together.
Think about that. Worldwide everyone is working so hard to move to greener cars and dramatically reduce emissions, but just 15 ships cause more pollution.
If you needed any convincing that this new technology is vital, then this is it. Retrofitted to existing ships these new ‘wings’ can reduce emissions by 15 percent. Fitted new, they can reduce it by 35%.
NayamWings is still only early stage, but it’s wonderful to see innovators thinking outside the box to come up with creative solutions for what is a really?significant world problem.
