Bringing tech to the bivalve sector
Bivalve farming is synonymous with a number of positives: mussels, clams and oysters require no feed, can increase biodiversity and improve water quality. However, one word seldom associated with the sector is innovation, as traditional cultivation methods still dominate. While effective, these have their drawbacks, not least in terms of the back-breaking labour that’s needed to turn tonnes of oyster bags. So it’s encouraging to see?a high-tech, hands-free method emerging from the salt marshes of Marennes. We hope that SEADUCER ’s novel system – which is on the cusp of meaningful commercialisation – proves a success.
