Bringing Digital Identity to You
Innovation is an enhancement to our daily routines.
Just think about your daily activities. One example I’ve noticed is that I touch less and less paper. This is for various reasons, but the truth is that our increasingly digital lives have changed the way we transact and interact.
Much of the work I, along with my team, do is to solve those daily hurdles, dissect them further, have honest conversations amongst ourselves, with our customers and partners, so that we can address real problems with real solutions.
For more than 12 months, we’ve been doing just that with digital identity. If you follow me on LinkedIn, you’ll see I’ve been talking consistently about our vision for a digital identity solution and how collaboration is forging our path forward.
If you were to map out all the places you need to show an ID or prove you are who you say you are, that diagram would be busy and disorganized. Identity is a requirement and often a roadblock when we need to open a new account, apply for a mortgage, rent a car or a vacation home or try to access any of these services. We need to identify ourselves with documentation that must be certified many times. But, for too many of us, we often don’t know who has or who will use our identity data.
We want to change this, just like we did in taking steps to remove passwords from the online checkout process.
And we’re doing just that. Our digital identity solution allows you to prove your identity, where data is exchanged only with your consent, giving you control of where your personal identity data is shared and how it is used. This week, we began to preview real world tests of the solution. The trials are with Deakin University and Australia Post.
With Deakin, we’ll be exploring how students prove their identity for student registration for digital exams. This is just the first step. We’re working with the university to look at other opportunities and other needs that we’ll test further in the coming semester.
Additionally, we’re partnering with Australia Post. The partnership will see the integration of the agency’s existing Digital iD solution, extending the ability for Australians to identify themselves easily when accessing services.
We recognize the journey doesn’t end here. There will be countless feedback loops and continued conversations with partners, customers, regulators and people like you and me. But it’s thrilling to be on the cusp of creating a new future and a new opportunity. We’ll continue to share our progress – partnerships, pilots and everything in between.
