It’s not about big changes and resolutions, it’s about daily actions taken over a long period of time.?
That’s where the few rise, and the plenty perish.?
In today's dynamic, challenging, and often stressful world, consistently achieving high-level performance requires a daily routine to hold you to your new standards.?
If this article resonates with you, I invite you to subscribe to the Adversity to Excellence newsletter.
Every week, I’ll share 1 actionable tip to help executives face their biggest fears and create a new story of resilience, vulnerability, and high-performance.
Here are 3 non-negotiable activities that have not only improved my performance but also contributed significantly to my personal growth and mental well-being.?
Let’s dive in,?
#1. Surround Yourself with Winners
Your environment greatly influences your mindset and behavior.?
We can keep on playing the same record in our heads and if the one we are playing is negative, it’s very hard to break that pattern.?
When I competed in the Iron Man event, I had to surround myself with people in that sport.
Because I wanted to be the best in that sport, I signed up for running clubs, swim academies and joined Iron Man camps where the best athletes are so that when I am around them, I am looking at them, adapting their best practices.
I was running with an Ironman winner, and I started to model the way he moved his hands while running.?
The next day, my coach saw that and complimented me, ‘Wow Nick, you’re running just like the pros”
Associating with individuals who are successful in their own fields, especially those who share your interests and goals, can definitely inspire you to raise your own standards and strive harder.
#2. Big Goals, Little Steps
It's been proven that those who write down their goals are significantly more likely to achieve them.?
I will compete in the Iron Man event on this date at this time…
Start your day by reflecting on your goals.

Making them measurable is a critical component, as it allows you to track your progress and make necessary adjustments.?
When I shared my goal with my coach, we broke it down into smaller goals and planned together.?
Sharing your goals with a mentor or coach can also create a sense of accountability, which can be very motivating.
#3. Practicing Gratitude
A daily gratitude practice has been shown to increase happiness and reduce stress.?
I was encouraged to start a gratitude list when I was in the recovery program and I still practice this daily.
It could be on a piece of paper, through a mobile app or in a Whatsapp group. The where and how doesn’t matter. The most important thing is to do it every day.
If it's a colleague, a friend, or a family member, then tell them that you appreciate them and why you are grateful for what they do for you in your life.
Your gratitude creates your attitude.?
Also remember to be grateful to yourself.
If you have accomplished something, take the moment and celebrate this and be happy with yourself.?
Be your #1 cheerleader.
This practice helps maintain a positive mindset and also fosters a sense of accomplishment and self-worth.
The combination of a supportive and inspiring environment, a clear and accountable goal-setting process, and a daily gratitude practice forms a solid foundation for success.?
These habits have worked well for me, and you could undoubtedly benefit from adopting similar practices.

1 年Very nicely articulated Nick and totally resonated with me. I now realise I did the same in trying to achieve my personal transformation....and it still continues...helping me stay focused and in being kinder to myself too.

1 年Good advice. Funny I was reading my six month goal plan from January on Monday. Done in a spread sheet and almost exactly on track.
