Bring the Seamless Team Experience into meeting rooms
Workplaces have evolved constantly to meet the needs of the times. This has been especially true of the past year or so, as more and more organizations make the leap towards focusing on universal collaboration and access. The Hybrid workplace of tomorrow will incorporate elements of “work from home” into it as workforce members around the country return to work, while others don’t. Ensuring seamless, unfettered collaboration between those two groups is key to remaining operable in the future.
Instead of the “top-down” approach to designing a workplace – an approach that involves management or executives being involved in the decision-making process, and lower-level employees adjusting to those decisions as they strive towards maintaining the company’s bottom-line; we’re now expecting to see more of a “bottom-up” approach. Going by this new approach, organizations will be looking to the people who work at their desks and asking them what works for them, trying to facilitate them in the pursuit of their work. This marks a difference in psyche; tomorrow’s employee won’t be forced to sit in a small cubicle or a bullpen just because it’s “the office”. The hybrid workplace will instead be built around them and their needs.
Another shift to expect is the obsolescence of the private work desk, as workers gravitate towards doing independent tasks at home. Spaces focused around teams, and getting those teams to collect and share thoughts, are expected to command a far larger portion of real-estate than the conference rooms of the past.
The challenge now is to equip spaces with a mind to solve, not only present-day problems, but potential future ones as well, by focusing on flexible and adaptive solutions. This statement very aptly captures the task ahead for most corporations in light of the pandemic situation. They must figure out how to outfit workplaces to facilitate creative and unconventional tasks remotely. This decision must be made in light of practical considerations as well as human considerations, where an overt investment in one forces a compromise upon the other. Technology must be utilized, of course, but adequate care must be taken to facilitate the training and recruitment of individuals to work with the said technology, lest we reduce it to functioning as nothing but expensive paper weights. The offices of tomorrow must attempt to strike a balance between those two distinct halves that make up the “hybrid workplace” whole.
It’s clear that offices and office-going life has changed considerably over the past couple of years. What remains to be seen is how these changes settle, and what practices organizations and individuals carry forward beyond the pandemic. The office has not become a relic of the past, but has rather evolved to account for our needs. As for the scope of this evolution and how it impacts our workday, we’ll only know with time. Maverick AV Solutions stands on the forefront of this evolutionary stage.
