Core values are crucial, but how do you find them, define them, and make sure they resonate with you? With your team?
Values are more than just words or ideas, they’re rooted in our ideology and present in our everyday world.
Around this time of year, my team and I come together, establishing our core values, creating a path for the year ahead, propelling us forward and towards the goals we want to achieve for 2020.
As a business owner, a leader, creating core values are a big part of bringing the right people together at the right time, establishing a set of shared values and wanted behaviours.
Our values really matter; they're our driving force, giving us emotional charge; direction; what decisions to make; what to do with our time (and what not to do). Empowerment. Congruency. Consistency. Trust in self & others. Certainty....to name a few!.
Without values, we will constantly run around the proverbial hamster wheel if we don't know what we stand for.
Understanding values are essential when we want to motivate others too.
Use Values to help you:
- Discover whether peoples personal motivations align with the values of the company and their position
- Discover what motivates someone
- Make quality decisions
- To function and work better together
- Create a better alignment of people towards a common goal
- Create the glue that keeps the team together
- To focus attention on the right issues, keeping everyone on the same page
- Understand a person’s willingness to change
- Develop work environments where people can thrive
