Bring Back Hands Across America

On May 25th, 1986 roughly 6.5 million people held hands for 15 minutes in an apparent attempt to form a continuous human chain from New York to Los Angeles in the United States. Many participants donated $10 each to reserve their place in line. The proceeds were donated to local charities to fight hunger and homelessness and help those in poverty. The event raised about $15 million for charities after operating costs. Unfortunately it still wasn’t enough to end hunger across America.
In addition to feeding the hungry it was a phenomenal marketing campaign by Coca-Cola. I still remember the Kenny Rogers & Coca Cola 1986 Hands Across America Commercial.
The Hands Across America song’s lyrics hold true more now than ever before, one verse that stands out the most; "Learn to love each other"
1986 was also the year the NY Mets won the World Series, but growing up as a Yankee fan I didn't care much. My team finished with a record of 90-72, finishing in second-place, 5.5 games behind the?Boston Red Sox. My attitude as a child, Who cares about those METS. Instead of saying NY still has a chance to beat Boston. Religious Yankee fans of any age can not compute what I am saying. So if you look at the sinking boat wearing your big boy pants you will clearly understand every person for themselves will always undoubtedly end in disaster for all. Whether someone brings back Hands Across America or not, let's do less pointing and more doing for one another. Action speaks louder than words, be sure to research local charity you can volunteer or donate to. Mentor one or many and always be courteous and kind to one another. #PAYITFORWARD
