Brilliant Things Happen in Calm Minds

We are over a quarter of the way through 2022 and it is a good time to check-in to see how the year is progressing and to set your intentions for the rest of the year.

Often realising our true direction and purpose is found in those moments of peace or calm, which is not always easy in a fast-paced world.

The theme of this month’s newsletter is around building those moments into your day to enable you to recognise your path and helping drive optimum performance in whatever you are doing.

What insights can you share as a professional athlete?

Playing professional rugby & making my debut for England & Sale Sharks at 19 years old was an exciting time. I played with some amazing sports personalities & worked with some excellent coaches. As a professional athlete, my job was to be physically & mentally ready to perform in every match, so it was important to ensure that I focused on all aspects of my wellbeing (e.g. Training, Nutrition, Sleep, Psychology).

What wellbeing activities do you do now?

Having spent enough of my life in the gym I now look to spend as much time as possible keeping active outdoors with my 3 children. My routine is very different from my playing days. These days I do like to track my steps & I always look to hit a minimum of 10,000 each day. I also enjoy fishing; I love the peace & calmness it brings.

Where is your happy place?

My happy place is most definitely the Lynn peninsula in Wales. My wife & I own a property there & it gives us the opportunity to spend quality time with our loved ones. I also enjoy activities such as walking the coastal paths or the hills of Snowdonia, sea swimming & kayaking. It really is an idyllic place.
