A Brilliant Blueprint for Building a Culture of Quality

It can be difficult to pinpoint what a culture of quality means and the part you play in creating and maintaining it. If you want to make a difference with your testing efforts but feel stuck, read this brilliant blueprint for building a culture of quality.

1. Define a quality narrative

Asking difficult questions is an important starting point. How do you measure quality? How is quality perceived in your company and by your customers? And where do you want to get to with all that in mind? It’s important to understand the current state of play both within and outside of your testing team. Is quality seen at the level it needs to be? Quality might mean something different to a leadership team than it does to a team of testers.?

2. Drive the change with leadership

Share your intentions and socialise all things related to quality and testing. What level of passion for quality could you demonstrate? Through sharing you’ll improve your chance of inspiring and enrolling those around you. And then you have a perfect opportunity to collectively define a set of quality engineering principles.

3. Empower the people

How can you create an environment where people aren’t blamed if things go wrong? Help change the narrative from “Why wasn’t this tested?” to “Let's resolve this issue and learn from it to introduce better practices.” Encourage team members to be the voice of quality and advocate for those quality engineering principles. Now is also the time to establish clear testing career paths to give people options so it's clear to them how they grow. Be bold and create new roles focused on the quality narrative.?
