Brilliant and beautiful Scarlet Tanager

Sitting in my truck on the side of the road, and we see this beauty along with his girlfriend maintaining a nest. She and he were quite bust, so I was lucky he took some interest in my lens!

We watched, without disturbing, from the cover of our Ford 150 and fired a few images when the opportunity presented itself. I love the colour of this bird, and the small horseshoe shape at the bottom of its beak! This is the first time I notice such a feature.
