Stephanie Reid and Lara McSpadden with Bethany

Sports stars brighten patients’ days

We’ve been all about sports at Brighter Lives lately, with visits to intensive care, children’s ward, cancer ward and more at TUH.

WNBL superstar and Brighter Lives ambassador, Stephanie Reid of JCU Townsville Fire has been visiting TUH regularly to visit patients. Steph has struck up a lovely friendship with Bethany across multiple visits. After the Townsville Fire's grand final win, Steph brought in a special vest just for Bethany! She has also been joined by teammate Lara McSpadden to spread some cheer in the children’s and cancer wards.

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys players have also joined in the fun. Reuben Cotter popped in to compare mullets and injuries and say hi to patients in the children’s ward. The Cowboys have also launched a new community program, Cowboys in Capes. Supported by Sun Metals, Cowboys NRL players will make regular visits to Townsville University Hospital to help lift spirits. The program launched with Tom Chester, Laitia Moceidreke and Gavin Cooper visiting TUH’s intensive care, children’s ward.

It’s wonderful to see patients’ faces brighten when they spot their special visitors.

The Paeds Team

Giving Day

Thanks to your generous contributions, we raised $66,936?to support patients, staff and visitors in Townsville Hospital and Health Service facilities.

From trivia nights in Ingham to raffles at the Burdekin and a bake sale and sausage sizzle in Townsville it was wonderful to see all the different fundraising activities supporting the day.

Your donation will go a long way to help brighten the lives of patients and staff with new equipment, training and world-class research.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all the volunteers and every single one of our valued supporters who helped spread the word about Giving Day. A special mention to one of our board members, Karyn Voevodin, who celebrated her birthday while working the phones for Giving Day.

Together, we can continue to work towards a healthier and brighter future for North Queensland.

The paediatric outreach team with patient, Seleah

Sweet treats for brave little patients

The paediatric outreach clinic is making healthcare a little bit sweeter for young patients! The team created a bravery award where every patient receives a lollipop after their visit.?

The goal is to turn what can be a daunting experience into a positive one and reduce the trauma associated with medical appointments.

Paediatric outreach provides care for children recently in hospital and those in the community with chronic health conditions.

The sweet treats continue to be funded by students from Townsville Grammar School from their fundraising efforts in 2021. Amazing effort by these young fundraisers!

We hope all the brave little patients enjoy their special treats and this helps brighten your time in hospital!
