Bright Spots: Leveraging AI to Meet Learner Needs

Dear Educator,

I have loved seeing many colleagues (and meeting new friends) at ASU+GSV this week. Connecting in person, laughing, and learning together is always fun and something I treasure.

Many conversations have been focused on AI and emerging technologies and their impact on education. These conversations around technological innovation invite us to remember what I wrote in Learner-Centered Innovation: “As the role of the educator evolves, human guidance and connection will become increasingly more, not less, important.”

My Bright Spot this week highlights how AI offers a world of possibilities for educators and students alike—enhancing the learning experience, fostering deeper engagement, and empowering students to become lifelong learners.

With Gratitude,

Katie Martin , CIO, Learner-Centered Collaborative

BRIGHT SPOT OF THE WEEK

Leveraging AI to Meet Learner Needs

At the AI Revolution (AIR) Show on Sunday, Marlon Styles facilitated a Learner-Centered AI for Educators session. He started by having each participant highlight a learner and their needs to inspire us as we explored AI tools. This simple strategy helped us center learners by design.

As a group, we explored three different AI tools that were designed by educators for educators using Playlab AI:

One of the main takeaways was how we can leverage these platforms to codesign powerful learning experiences and even create our own AI platforms that are relevant to our unique learners and learning communities.

Overall, it was clear that leveraging these AI platforms was not taking away the power of the educator or replacing them. Rather, it was helping us be more effective in meeting the needs of young learners and collectively achieving our goals. While technology brings immense potential, educators’ guidance, creativity, and compassion can truly unlock its transformative power in education.
