The bright side of struggle

My car was towed. I walked into the parking lot at 7:30 AM and the car wasn’t there. After an obligatory search for it, I sighed and started walking down to the first floor of the parking garage for information on where the car might have been taken.
I came across a maintenance worker and he looked at me sympathetically and said, “your car was towed?” I nodded and he said that it probably saved me from something bad that could have happened. He said, “look for the lesson, and appreciate the blessing.”
As I walked, a homeless man fell into step beside me and began telling me about his struggles. I listened as we walked and he eventually wandered off in a different direction still carrying on with the conversation. A victim of mental health and a reminder that my struggles pale in comparison.
While I was waiting on the curb for a car to pick me up, I said good morning to a woman sitting alone having coffee. She shared that she was trying to reset from a stressful meeting the prior day. She was taking some time to appreciate the day in front of her before her work day started. She reminded me to take care of myself so that I can always be ready to tackle life’s challenges.
The car arrived and during my conversation with the driver he shared that up until a few weeks ago he had been the manager of a convenience store and was suddenly put out of business by the landlord of the building, losing not only his business, but all his inventory. He said that he could be bitter, but chose to be happy instead.
This was how my day started. I encountered amazing people that I never would have met that gifted me with reminders of what is important. Life is a matter of perspective, and we can choose to be grateful and walk in the light of the bright side.

Look for the lesson
In the tapestry of our lives, everyday experiences form the threads that weave together the lessons we carry forward. Each moment, no matter how seemingly ordinary, holds the potential to impart wisdom and broaden our understanding of the world and ourselves. One of the key aspects of finding the lesson in everyday experiences is cultivating mindfulness, an attitude of curiosity, and a grateful heart.
At the center of this process is reflection. By taking a step back and reflecting on the events, interactions, and emotions of our day, we can extract valuable insights. Putting ourselves in others' shoes helps us understand different perspectives, fostering empathy and compassion. Challenges often test our limits, push us out of our comfort zones, and force us to confront adversity head-on. In doing so, they offer invaluable lessons that shape our character and outlook on life.
