Searching for the next location to build your life's work is a job in itself. Although losing a job is a very real trauma, one that throws off our equilibrium, it is vital that before you begin your new search, you start at the beginning. Your next job will be your most important one yet. Therefore it takes study, conversation, and sincere preparation before you send off that first resume. This post will be brief because it is about brevity. In today's world, people tend not to read things while memos and e-mails get longer and longer.
As you prepare your resume, make it tight, interesting, and authentic. When you send thank you notes, make them sincere, and make them brief. When you send any note to a hiring manager make it brief, make it meaningful, show off the true you. I see little brevity in the world around me, while more people pay less attention to the written word. Practice writing. Mail letters, cards, and memos to friends who will tear them down, while helping to build you up. Searching for a new job is a great challenge. Stand out with your gratitude, your attitude, and your brevity. Give people some of their time back and you just may come up long, because you were short in all you said. Good luck!
