"As the 5th scheme under the Prime Minister’s package, our government will launch a comprehensive scheme for providing internship opportunities in 500 top companies to 1 crore youth in 5 years. They will gain exposure for 12 months to real-life business environment, varied professions and employment opportunities. An internship allowance of 5,000 per month along with a one-time assistance of 6,000 will be provided."

NIP—National Internship Portal: It aims to offer a single platform for students and employers to connect with each other and engage themselves in the internship process more effectively. This portal will leverage the process of applying for internships, enhance access to the opportunities of internship, and ensure that students from different sectors find relevant internships.

Skill Development and Internship Programs: The Government of India has introduced a number of skill development initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, involving mandatory internships as part of the training. This has been rolled out under schemes like the PMKVY for participants to get practical experience in their chosen field.

Fresh Graduates Internship Schemes: The government introduced internship schemes focusing on fresh graduates and postgraduates with the intention of giving them work experience in the industry and searching for better job prospects. Arrangements like these would normally have stipends and other financial aid offered so more people can afford internships.

Industry Partnerships: The Government of India has been working on linkages between institutions and industry players so that these internships will turn out to be more structured and meaningful.
