Brief Introduction to the Manufacturing Process of Electroplated Diamond Tools

Electroplated diamond tools have high bonding strength, high grinding efficiency, small shape errors and easy maintenance. They have a wide range of applications and low cost. The basic process includes:

Preparation process 1: selection of diamond

The basic requirements include:

1. Appearance characteristics: Pure diamond should be colorless and transparent (in fact, it often develops color due to impurities and defects). Synthetic diamond was observed under metallographic microscope as octahedron, rhombic dodecahedron, cube and its aggregates. Often yellowish green, those with more impurities are greyish green, and boron-containing diamonds are black.

2. Performance: According to the standard of JB2808-79, diamonds are divided into 4 models: JR1, JR2, JR, JR4. The higher the label, the higher the hardness, the better the quality, and the more expensive, but not the better the performance. Although JR4 diamonds have the highest hardness, they are not as sharp as JR3 diamonds. If the two are used in combination, they can maintain good performance and reduce production costs.

Process 2: Diamond impurity removal

Magnetic impurities: Because diamond contains magnetic inclusions (catalyst metals), they are generally magnetic. The higher the inclusion content, the stronger the magnetic properties. Diamonds with strong magnetic properties not only have many impurities, low strength, and poor heat resistance, but also adversely affect the quality of electroplating and easily form nickel knobs, so they are not easy to choose. The reason is that the magnetic inclusion is a good conductor, which makes the diamond particles have poor insulation and weak electrical conductivity. Therefore, under the effect of the power line clamp end effect, metal nickel is preferentially plated on the diamond clamp end high on the plating layer to form a nickel knob. In order to avoid the influence of magnetic impurities, diamonds must be magnetically separated before use, preferably on a special magnetic separator, and magnets can also be used to remove particles with strong magnetic induction. Once the diamond is found to be magnetic, all diamonds should be returned.

Adsorption of impurities: Diamond is not pure. The surface always has a layer of adsorption impurities. If it is not removed before plating, diamond particles will float on the surface of the electrolyte and cannot be deposited on the substrate. Therefore, diamond must be treated with wet (wet) before use.

Process 3: electrolyte heating

Because the electrolyte is not heated at a high temperature (<50 °), it is usually heated in a water bath. The electroplating container is placed in a water bath on the operation table. Heating can use titanium alloy heating tubes or water heaters. The former is placed in the water bath, and the latter is connected to the water bath. Electric heating tube can be equipped with temperature control device. Its principle is to control the executive part in the main circuit of electric heating, namely the contactor JC, by electronic relay (type DJ-702), to make it close (or open), so as to switch on (or cut off) the heating power to achieve automatic temperature control. the goal of.

Process 4: Plating

In the electroplating bath, the object to be plated immersed in the plating solution is connected to the negative electrode of the DC power supply (composing the cathode), and the metal to be plated is connected to the positive electrode of the DC power supply (composing the anode). The metal ions of the plating layer are deposited on the cathode to form a plating layer after the metal ions in the plating solution are turned on. As shown below:

Basic conditions of electroplating clean production:

At present, most of the workshops of electroplated diamond tool manufacturers are relatively simple and have poor production conditions. They do not pay attention to environmental protection, cause environmental pollution, and affect product quality. To achieve clean production and improve the quality of products, comprehensive management must be achieved.

When selecting the address of the electroplating shop, full attention should be paid to the impact of the electroplating shop on the surrounding environment. The electroplating workshop should be located in a place with fresh air and good convection to ensure natural ventilation and good lighting in the workshop. At the same time, it is necessary to prevent the surrounding environment from polluting the workshop, so as to prevent foreign dust from blowing into the workshop and falling into the plating tank when the window is opened.

Comprehensive governance:

â‘  Overall ventilation: To maintain good ventilation in the workshop, overall mechanical ventilation should be used as an auxiliary means, and exhaust air should be used to exhaust the air from the upper part of the room. The exhaust air volume should also be compensated by fresh air sent from the air supply system.

â‘¡ Local exhaust: In order to control the spread of harmful gas and prevent the indoor air from being polluted, local exhaust facilities should be provided at the location where the harmful gas is generated. The outdoor exhaust vent should be 1.5 ~ 2m above the edge of the roof.

â‘¢ Closed exhaust: the deplated workpiece and pickled diamond will produce thick yellow smoke, which is polluting and harmful to human body. Must be carried out in a fume hood to achieve a strong closed exhaust.

Strict hygiene:

â‘  The operator enters the electroplating workshop to wear work clothes and change work shoes, and non-workers are not allowed to enter the workshop casually.

â‘¡ After working every day, carefully clean the operation site; regularly clean up the workshop equipment and plating containers, auxiliary appliances, etc., remove dust and salt crystals, and keep the equipment tidy and running normally (especially conductive parts).

â‘¢ Cover and cover (especially the plating tank and sand container) when the electroplating equipment is stopped and keep it clean.

â‘£ It is forbidden to store non-production debris in the workshop to reduce dust sources.
