Brief Introduction of AISI 4140

AISI 4140?steel?is a low alloy steel containing chromium, molybdenum, and manganese. It is widely used across numerous industries and is an excellent material choice due to its toughness, high fatigue strength, and abrasion and impact resistance. Not many grades can match the versatility and usefulness of 4140.

The Equivalent Steel

AISI 4140 / 1.7225 / 42CrMo4 / SCM 440 can be regarded as the equivalent steel. They share about the same much in chemical composition. So in many circumstances, they can be replaced by each other.

Pre-harden of AISI 4140:

SAE 4140 alloy steel is usually supplied ready?heat treated?to hardness in 18-22 HRC. But if strong hardness is required, Quenching & Tempering can be applied. With Q+T heat treatment, the hardness can reach 28~34 HRC.

Applications:

ASTM 4140 steel bar, flat or plate material can be used for as wide variety of applications where greater toughness and wear resistance is needed over lower carbon grades. Typical applications for 4140?tool steel?uses include Components, Adapters, Arbors, strippers, holder blocks, mold bases, ejectors, back up and support tooling, etc..
