Brief book review: IT Savvy - What Top Executives Must Know to Go from Pain to Gain

Opinion: Easy read that will solidify your knowledge about digital transformation and provide you some tools to help you get started.

Let me start by saying that this book is amalgam of authors comprehensive academic and consultancy experience. The inspiration for this book came by author’s many researches which intention was to understand how large companies are utilizing their IT capabilities and measurement of their “IT Savviness” (“Characteristic of firms and their managers reflected in the ability to use IT, to consistently elevate firm performance; IT savvy firms distinguish themselves from others by building and using platform of digitized processes”). This book is filled with balanced mix of real-world examples of digital transformations and explanations of how they managed it.

Word of caution. You will not find a holy grail, one size fits all, solution here, since every company is complexity for itself, nonetheless, it will give you general overview how to start considering the process of digital transformation and how to better understand the process itself, along with some useful tools and considerations.

Additionally, someone can argue that the book is becoming obsolete, since there are many known facts or common knowledge in it (the book is 12 years old!). For me this book was valuable because it put together pieces of knowledge acquired from different projects and reading materials, and I think it will do the same for you too. Enjoy!?
