Bridging the Innovation Gap: Camila Morocho's Journey as a LatinX Tech Leader and Advocate for Inclusive Design

By Noe Espinosa

As I prepared for NERTS 2024, I had the chance to interview Camila Morocho, a professional and expert in innovation at Accenture. Born in Ecuador and raised in New Jersey, Camila is an inspiration for the next generation of LatinX individuals in Tech. Her creative mindset, curiosity, and passion for dancing, art, and design have all shaped her career journey.

Camila, an Innovation Consultant at Accenture and a speaker at the recent NERTS 2024, shares that growing up in a diverse neighborhood made her realize the existing gap in businesses creating products and services tailored to meet the needs of diverse communities.

To maintain innovation, make informed business decisions, resolve issues, measure performance, improve people's lives, and satisfy diverse markets, organizations need up-to-date data. This data can only be obtained by understanding consumers' perspectives and needs. Data plays a crucial role in innovation, and gathering information from consumers with different backgrounds is essential, as they perceive things differently, according to Camila. To support companies in making the best critical business decisions and managing products suitable for everyone, accurate and relevant data from a diverse community of consumers is necessary.

Camila also commented that technology provides the opportunity for humans to learn something new every day. We have used technology for many years, such as televisions, computers, phones, digital watches, and more. In the era of AI, Camila advises that we continue educating ourselves on technology trends and innovations because technology will always require human input.

Camila's passion for technology, innovation, and helping others has led her to become a lead for The Innovation and Emerging Technology project for ALPFA New York Pride+. In this role, Camila supported The ALPFA NY Pride and Technical Bootcamp: XR Extended Reality, providing opportunities for Queer LatinX leaders to participate and have a voice in emerging technology. She also supported the Pride+ Impact Innovation Challenge. As an ally, Camila believes in the importance of inclusive and diverse teams within organizations. She recognizes that diverse teams are more likely to contribute new ideas and perspectives, take risks, and foster innovation. We are grateful to have had her join us for NERTS 2024!
