Bridging Growth and Mentorship: An In-Depth Look at Our Journey with gigCMO and the Tech Adoption Lab
As we are closing the chapter on the sixth cohort of the Tech Adoption Lab, part of the Click Start London Programme, I find myself reflecting on the journey, the evolution of our approach, and the profound impact of gigCMO 's methodology on SMEs and the next generation of marketers and entrepreneurs.
Once again, on behalf of gigCMO , I am proud to continue to provide consultation to Tech Adoption Lab's SMEs and mentorship to 18-25-year-old Not-in-Training, Not-in-Education, Not-in-Employment Londoners.
This reflection is not just a recount of our achievements but a candid exploration of how our integrated approach to marketing leadership, strategic mentorship, and the deployment of the gigCMO playbook can catalyse meaningful growth in the SME ecosystem.
From Specialisation to a Unified Growth Strategy
The journey with the Tech Adoption Lab highlighted our initial reliance on segmented expertise within the 'Marketing Avengers'. While this provided depth in specific areas, we observed the need for a broader, more interconnected approach to marketing that considers its cumulative effect on business growth. Transitioning to a holistic strategy allowed us to better address the diverse needs of SMEs, aligning closely with gigCMO's ethos of empowering businesses through comprehensive marketing leadership and knowledge sharing. This shift not only enriched our consultancy work but also broadened the horizon for trainees, offering them a more integrated view of marketing's potential.
The Core of Our Approach: The gigCMO Playbook
Central to our refined strategy is the gigCMO Business Growth Playbook, based on the best practices of professors and practitioners. It serves as a comprehensive guide for transformative business growth, encapsulating industry best practices and strategic insights to navigate today's market complexities. The playbook's essence lies in its capacity to foster long-term strategic development and capability enhancement within SMEs, moving beyond short-term solutions to instigate sustainable growth and learning.
Crafting Bespoke Solutions for SMEs
Our evolved approach through the Tech Adoption Lab has underscored the importance of customised consultancy. Initially focused on customer acquisition, we quickly identified the critical need to tackle fundamental business aspects, such as clear messaging and value propositions, from the get-go. This led to more effective engagements with SMEs, where strategies from the gigCMO playbook were adapted to address specific challenges, resulting in targeted, impactful outcomes. This methodology not only reflects our commitment to delivering value-driven solutions but also demonstrates the practical application of our holistic marketing philosophy.

Mentoring the Next Generation: A Dual Perspective
The mentorship aspect of the Tech Adoption Lab has been particularly rewarding. Engaging with nearly 100 trainees to date, I've observed a clear dichotomy in their aspirations—some gravitate towards marketing specialisation, while others are drawn to entrepreneurship. This observation has informed our mentorship strategy, enabling us to tailor our programmes to support both trajectories effectively.
For Aspiring Marketers: The journey begins with specialisation. We encourage trainees to delve into specific marketing domains before expanding their scope. This approach not only sharpens their expertise but also provides a comprehensive understanding of how each domain interlinks to form a cohesive marketing strategy.?
For Emerging Entrepreneurs: The playbook's value extends beyond marketing tactics. It serves as a foundational guide for building robust business models, emphasising customer understanding, value creation, and strategic business development. This comprehensive approach prepares young entrepreneurs for the multifaceted challenges of starting and growing a business.
The Crucial Role of Purpose
One of the most significant insights from our journey as gigCMO and Click Start London has been realising the importance of purpose in business. Whether mentoring young entrepreneurs or consulting with SMEs, the discussion invariably turns to the 'why' behind the business. Understanding the purpose is not just about defining a mission statement; it's about embedding this purpose into every aspect of the business, from marketing strategies to company culture. This alignment of purpose and practice is what ultimately defines the legacy a business leaves in its community and beyond.
Reflecting on Our Path Forward
This candid look at our journey through the Tech Adoption Lab and the implementation of the gigCMO playbook underscores a fundamental belief: marketing leadership and knowledge transfer are pivotal in driving business growth. Our approach, characterised by bespoke solutions, strategic mentorship, and a relentless focus on purpose, represents a paradigm shift in how we support SMEs and mentor the next generation of marketing and business leaders.
As we move forward, the lessons learned and successes achieved fuel our commitment to empowering businesses and individuals alike. The path has been as enlightening as it has been challenging, reaffirming our mission not just to navigate the present but to shape a future where businesses thrive on the principles of holistic growth, strategic insight, and purposeful engagement.

8 个月Hi Mark and Siyuan, I noticed that you blocked me after not paying for my salary. That is very unprofessional. You hire people, you make people work for your company but you need to pay them. Hiring Filipino workers and taking advantage of them by making them work very hard for a very little per hour rate and not paying them is not a good practice. Team members leave your company every month because of how you treat them and making them work for a lot of tasks. Please, deposit my salary right away. This is not good for your business. This company takes advantage of Filipino workers paying them $15 per day (10 hours of non-stop working) and making us deposit 10% of our salary up to 3 months until we are out of probation. I don't think your company values and goals align well with how you treat employees. We are not your slaves. Slavery is long gone, please change.
