3. techQualia contributes to KUST Review?
We’re also happy to announce that our? latest contribution to Khalifa University Science and Tech Review Abu Dhabi’s AI issue has been published!
The issue features invaluable insights from MENA industry leaders such as? Ernesto Damiani , Senior Director of the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Institute at Khalifa University; Lee Baron, Associate professor in the School of Design at Northumbria University; Dalaver Anjum , Assistant professor of Physics at Khalifa University; Mudasir A. Yatoo, Research associate at Imperial College London; and Blaise Tardy, Assistant Professor at Khalifa University; and finally, our own AI Philosopher and head of techQualia, Aliah Yacoub .
Aliah critically examines the role of AI in entertainment and argues that AI Hollywood tropes are at best distracting, and at worst, irresponsible and dangerous. This is why rigorous critique is pertinent to help restore a much-needed balance between AI fact and fiction, and why we have to promote the usage of "good science" as theoretical grounding for the entertainment content we mindlessly consume and allow to shape knowledge-production.?

As Emotion AI begins to penetrate critical sectors in the MENA region, from healthcare to education, we're faced with a pivotal question: Can this technology, — born from Western models and assuming homogenic, universal standards of emotions—?truly understand the intricate nuances of our emotions?
Drawing on historical lessons and real-world examples, techQualia Intern Fatma Ahmed challenges us to consider whether Emotion AI is truly ready for our diverse region—or if we need to adapt it to better reflect our unique emotional (and regulatory!) landscape.
