Bridging Cultures Through Motion Design: My Journey with Onesal Across Korean Universities
Last September, I had the incredible opportunity to represent Onesal , a creative and high quality motion studio based in Tokyo, and share our passion for motion design with students and professionals across Korea. Our journey together with Lucia Gutkin took us to prestigious higher eucation institutions and specialized motion design schools including Hongik University , ????? , 105class, VDAS, and vslab . It was an incredible experience, not just for me, but for everyone involved, highlighting the universal appeal and communicative power of motion design.
The Heart of My Seminars: "The Three Things I Wish I Knew"
The seminars were centered around "The Three Things I Wish I Knew When I Was a Student," focusing on lessons about resilience, generosity, and discernment in the creative process:
Motion Design: A Universal Language
The response from the seminars was overwhelming with over 400 people assisting. It reinforced my belief that motion design transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. It is a universal language that connects us on a deep, human level. Despite cultural differences, the principles of creativity and design resonate universally, bridging the gap between us.
The feedback was incredibly affirming. Attendees saw Onesal as a beacon of innovation and creativity in Asia. Our approach to research and development, our meticulous process, and our visionary outlook were aspects many found inspiring.
Reflections
The seminars sparked a lot of reflection and received some heartfelt feedback:

My Korean Seminar Adventure: A Study in Motion (and Emotion)
Venturing to give all my seminars in Korean, after dedicating nearly two years to the language, felt a bit like deciding to swim across a river because you've had some success with puddles.
The experience was akin to tightrope walking with a safety net made of good intentions and patient listeners. There were moments when I soared, articulating thoughts on motion design with surprising clarity, and others where I might have accidentally promised students eternal happiness through vector manipulation. This foray into conducting seminars in Korean wasn't just a test of my language skills, but a reminder that the essence of teaching (and learning) transcends words. It's about the connection, the shared moments of "Aha!" and the occasional, unintended comedy.
Conclusion: Onesal's Continued Journey
As Onesal continues to pioneer in the realm of motion design, our journey through Korea has been a significant milestone. The enthusiastic reception and the connections forged during these seminars reaffirm our belief in the power of motion design as a global community. It's a reminder that at the heart of our creative endeavors lies a universal pursuit of expression, innovation, and shared human experiences.
We remain dedicated to pushing the boundaries of motion design, fostering a culture of creativity that transcends borders, and inspiring the next generation of designers. I am honored to be part of a studio that is seen as a beacon in Asia and beyond, and I look forward to continuing our journey, sharing our passion, and learning from the vibrant global community of motion designers.
