The Power of Solar Grazing (Film Premiere)

We are excited to invite you to the upcoming premiere of our documentary produced for the American Solar Grazing Association (ASGA) (ASGA), which will debut on September 9th at the RE+ conference in Anaheim, California. This film explores the innovative practice of solar grazing, where sheep manage the vegetation on solar farms, keeping the grass low to prevent plants from shading solar panels. Solar grazing creates new opportunities for farmers while improving the production of clean energy.

The documentary tells the powerful success stories of farmers who raise sheep on solar sites and aims to raise awareness about solar sheep grazing not only within the solar industry and agriculture communities, but with the broader public. Featuring firsthand accounts and interviews, the film provides a thoughtful view of how this practice benefits both the solar industry and agricultural communities.

Directed by Tucker Gragg , the film elaborates on the environmental benefits of solar grazing, such as improving soil health and promoting biodiversity at solar sites. It also examines the economic impacts, detailing how this practice offers farmers a steady income stream and contributes economically to local communities while reducing operational costs for solar companies.

With nearly 1000 members, ASGA plays a crucial role as the only farmer-founded and farmer-led organization within the world of dual-use solar. ASGA’s mission is to support farmers and bring agriculturalists and the solar energy industry together in their unique community, building bridges between these two worlds. ASGA provides essential educational resources for farmers and solar operators, offering best practices, networking opportunities, and support to implement solar grazing effectively. ASGA's efforts are vital in expanding the adoption of agriculture on solar energy sites, with over 100,000 acres of solar sites now being grazed by more than 80,000 happy sheep and counting.

Join Us: The premiere at the RE+ conference, a yearly conference for renewable energy professionals, offers an ideal backdrop for the debut of a film that captures the intersection of innovation in agriculture and solar technology. We invite you to join us for this exciting premiere, where the screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director and one of the film’s farmers that will explore how the film came together and how ASGA and its partners can best tell the solar grazing story and communicate its benefits. After its premiere at RE Plus, the film will embark on a festival tour, particularly targeting outdoor film festivals.
