Our Chosen Charity for January - The Bridge Homelessness to Hope

We have chosen the Leicester-based charity, The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, as our first charitable cause to back this year.?

We’ve committed to making a ￡1,000 donation each month in 2023 to organisations nominated by YFM team members. January’s charity was put forward by Mark Hurley who has worked with us in a range of roles over the last 10years.?

The Bridge Homelessness to Hope www.bridgeleicester.org delivers support to the more than 3,000 people estimated to be homeless in Leicester. They include a significant number of rough sleepers who are currently having to cope with the winter weather.

A ￡40 donation can buy an all seasons sleeping bag for rough sleepers while ￡30 can buy a rucksack, which is vital for keeping personal possessions safe while living on the streets.

The Bridge’s purpose extends beyond buying equipment – the team work to build relationships with homeless people, with the aim of helping them to find a home and the stability needed to address other challenges. For many homeless people these can include addiction, mental illness, offending and family breakdown.

The charity also supports the homeless by providing a warm safe place during the day where they will receive a hot meal, drinks and have access to technology to support them in getting them off the streets. With energy costs rising from ￡500 to ￡2k, Mark and Nicola have pledged a monthly donation to help with the increase.

YFM’s donation along with funds from a wide range of other donors and volunteers is helping to buy essential support for some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised people in society today. We are delighted to have been able to help such a vital charity and look forward to supporting more organisations throughout the year.
