Bridge Design 2021
Master course for Architecture & Civil Engineering students
(Scroll down for all presentation posters)
With the 2021 episode of the Bridge Design course we made a fresh start with five new bridge locations in Rotterdam for the students to choose from. New was also the introducion of a client to the course in the person of Wouter Kamphuis, architect and project manager for the Municipality of Rotterdam. Having a real client proved to be a valuable contribution to the course. For the second year Stijn Joosten from Arup provided excellent structural mentoring to the groups. The first masterclass was once more in the capable hands of Martin Knight. Martin addressed contextual and cultural awareness for the bridge designs. Three weeks later, Laurent Ney gave a second masterclass, challenging our students to the max in terms of structural logic and high standards for durable materialisation.
A final word to my students. For obvious reasons, this edition of Bridge Design was 100% online, putting a large strain on all involved. Nevertheless I hope you will agree that these unfortunate circumstances didn't influence the results in a negative way. I, for one, am very pleased not just with your results, but also with your perseverance to finished the course successfully from within the walls of your own personal confinements. I am proud of you all. Take care of yourselves and of each other and see you all soon in BK-City.
Best, Joris
