BRICS Forum: A Platform for Collaboration and Growth

The BRICS Forum is an annual meeting of the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The forum was established in 2006 to promote cooperation and coordination among the BRICS countries in a variety of areas, including trade, investment, finance, and technology.

The BRICS Forum has been successful in achieving its goals of promoting cooperation and growth among the BRICS countries. In recent years, the BRICS countries have signed a number of agreements to boost trade and investment, and they have also worked together to address global issues such as climate change and terrorism.

The BRICS Forum is an important platform for the BRICS countries to share their experiences and ideas, and to build consensus on a range of issues. The forum has also helped to raise the profile of the BRICS countries on the global stage. Twenty-three countries have formally applied to become new BRICS members, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Indonesia, Egypt and Ethiopia.

I am excited to see what the BRICS Forum will achieve in the years to come. I believe that the forum has the potential to play a major role in shaping the global economy and politics. Let us look at some of the key achievements of the BRICS Forum:

1. The BRICS countries have signed a number of agreements to boost trade and investment, including the BRICS Trade Agreement and the BRICS Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.
2. The BRICS countries have worked together to address global issues such as climate change and terrorism.
3. The BRICS countries have established a number of institutions to support their cooperation, including the BRICS Bank and the BRICS New Development Bank.
4. The BRICS countries have held a number of summits and other meetings to discuss their cooperation.

The BRICS Forum has the potential to play a major role in shaping the global economy and politics. The BRICS countries are home to a combined population of over 3 billion people and a GDP of over $20 trillion. This makes them a major force in the global economy. The BRICS countries are also increasingly playing a leading role in international affairs.

South Africa assumed the role of BRICS Chair on January 1, 2023, with the theme "BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism." The theme reflects South Africa's commitment to working with BRICS partners to address common challenges, promote sustainable development, and strengthen global governance.

The five priorities of the BRICS in 2023 are:

1. Developing a partnership toward an equitable just transition
2. Transforming education and skills development for the future
3. Unlocking opportunities through the African Continental Free Trade Area
4. Strengthening post-pandemic socio-economic recovery and the attainment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
5. Strengthening multilateralism, including working towards real reform of global governance institutions and strengthening the meaningful participation of women in peace processes

Other issues on the agenda include discussions on global geopolitics, trade and infrastructure development. These priorities are ambitious, but they are essential to addressing the challenges facing the world today. Members of BRICS are committed to collaborating with all stakeholders of the ecosystem to make progress on these priorities and to build a better future for all.

The BRICS Forum provides a platform for the BRICS countries to share their experiences and ideas, and to build consensus on a range of issues. This is important because the BRICS countries have different perspectives on many issues. By working together, the BRICS countries can play a more effective role in shaping the global economy and politics.

I am excited to learn that India is launching BRICS startup forum to support other members. This year, India is launching a BRICS startup forum this year to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among investors, incubators, and aspiring entrepreneurs. The forum will be hosted by India, which has a thriving startup ecosystem with nearly 100,000 startups. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced the forum during the seventh BRICS Industry Ministers' meeting. He said that India can offer its support to other BRICS members in this segment, given the success of the Startup India initiative.

Subsequent to my contribution as a Member of Council at Startup20, a newly form engagement group at G20 under India's presidency in 2023, I am excited to see what the BRICS Forum will achieve in the years to come. I believe that the forum has the potential to play a major role in shaping a more equitable and just world.
