BREXIT - Will You Continue to Resist or Accept?

BREXIT - Will You Continue to Resist or Accept?

The UK has voted, the BREXIT camp has won and the UK will no longer be part of the European Union.

Whilst not what I wanted, the majority of voters did.  So, because I live in a democracy, I reluctantly accept the decision.

So, what happens next?  What does this mean for us, the UK?  What does it mean for the everyday man and woman on the street?  It will all unfold over the weeks and months ahead.

What does it mean in reality?

Could this be the downfall of a nation that once ruled the waves? With Scotland and Northern Ireland voting to remain, how does this make for a united Great Britain?  What happens if they now decide to pull away and seek their own independence? Does this make what was once considered great, not so great after all?

What for our hardworking EU friends and colleagues who have settled in this country and made it their home?  Will they be treated like my parents’ generation who, as members of the Commonwealth, were invited to come to this country, greeted with open arms back in the 1950s, only to have the door later slammed in their face?

Will this be the demise of a Britain that was once so great? Or will the UK rise from the ashes, ruling the waves once again.

I’ve heard many of the OUT camp say, we did it before, we’ll do it again.  But things were very different 42 years ago, it won’t be the same. It can’t be the same. Times have moved on.

Will it be a step backwards or forwards for equality and diversity?

With all the strides made for diversity and equality, will it now set us back 50 years? Or will it be an opportunity to bring about positive change and make key decision makers in this country more reflective of the diverse population they serve?

So many questions and what the answers will be, who knows…  What I do know though is that whatever happens over the coming months, it’s going to happen.  Whether we like it or not, the UK will leave the European Union and change is a happening.

Out of change comes opportunity

I always say that out of change comes opportunity. In fact, back in my days of employment, I got 3 promotions as a result of opportunities arising during organisational change.

We can either resist this change, or we can accept it and embrace it.  Either way, it’s here. Like with any change, putting up a resistance expends a lot of stressful, negative energy, limits your thinking and closes your mind to seeing the opportunities that exist.  Why fight what you can’t change? Instead, work with the change whilst, at the same time helping to influence changes for a better future.

Accepting that change is happening means you can channel your energy positively, looking for the good that can come out of it.  Keeping an open mind means being open to opportunities. I’m not saying don’t give up the fight, it’s just that this particular battle has been lost and we need to develop a new strategy.

As for me, I will start to consider what this means for me, my business and my family and start to consider what opportunities can arise as a result.

With every change whether we like it or not, there are opportunities to be had. What opportunities do you think can arise for you, or the nation as a result of BREXIT?
