#BREXIT IS NOT INEVITABLE: "Three things can be said with confidence about Brexit and British politics. The first is a statement of fact: the Leave side won but Brexit has not been triggered. The UK is as much a member of the EU as it was a week ago. No domestic law has been repealed and no international obligation has been revoked. Nothing, in constitutional terms, has changed. The second is a statement of law. There is nothing the EU can do at law to force the UK into notifying a decision to begin the Article 50 process for member states that are leaving the bloc. EU politicians can demand what they want, but they may as well be whistling. It is entirely a matter for the UK when, and indeed if, the notification is sent. In legal terms, the non-binding referendum is no more significant than a consultation exercise and it was entirely a domestic matter. Nothing changes on the EU level, unless the UK wants it to.The third is a statement about politics. It is perfectly conceivable that no Article 50 notification will ever be sent...And so there is a referendum result that is not going anywhere quickly, and faces being slowed down by a number of factors. And if events overtake it — say a general election or a second referendum — it is a result that may be going nowhere at all" .Financial Times, 28 June 2016 - woo hoo! I thought I was the only lone voice saying CALM DOWN, it aint over till its over.... #BREXIT is not inevitable, this is politics, there is everything to play for....

8 年The people of the U.K. have spoken in a non binding advisory vote. The result of the vote has to be accepted. For anything now to happen, an Act of Parliament will need to be enacted. Today the Tory and Labour Party are having a civil war. How will anything get through Parliament, the Commons and Lords - when there is no majority to exit the European Union. There are also constitutional law issues that could be used to challenge any use of the advisory vote because the leave vote was obtained duplicitously and without the checks and balances a vote of such fundamental importance for the people of the UK would have needed. Politically - which politician is going to lead something that will probably lead to the United Kingdom losing Scotland and Northern Ireland. The ink is not dry - Brexit is far from inevitable as the Financial Times and lawyers advise.

8 年Simon - you are correct that there has been an advisory vote. Based on law - which is clear - and politics - i don't think the ink is dry.

8 年I think you have taken leave of your senses. The people of Britain have spoken. Accept that fact and move on.
