#?BREXIT divorce is near impossible....

WHAT A FANTASTIC STORM IN A TEA CUP! The legal protection for the Brexit divorce is so watertight, its near impossible in the current political climate. A prime minister in the UK would have to have a mandate by Act of Parliament to trigger Article 50. Westminster is a total farce - you couldn't organise a mad hatters tea party there let alone get an Act of Parliament through, though we are having one hell of a storm over a lovers quarrel. The Brexit discussions are such a lot of political hot air to cause panic. KEEP CALM THERE IS NO ?#?BREXIT?.

Ms Sturgeon cannot block the art.50 notification. A new Parliament could eventually if voted on a clear manifesto to reverse the R result, but the current neither. The referendum need was approved by the current Parliament in its large majority vote taken last year (cross-party). Apart from disappointed Remain voters (minority unfortunately), is anyone else asking for reversing the outcome either in UK or in the EU? Personal views and not related to my job status.

I agree with this opinion ! And it is the opinion of a lot of other lawyers. How is an Act of Parliament going to get through West mister when the majority is against suicide and Ms Nicola Sturgeon is rightfully threatening to leave the sinking ship !!! This divorce is politically too hard! Yes law is a fascinating space and thank goodness for the checks and balances in this instance !

Brussels Matters - senior level EU law discussions

8 年

Speaking earlier today (28 June) during a White & Case LLP Brexit webinar, Sir Nicholas Forwood QC opined that any agreement to withdraw from the EU (one of two agreements required by a Brexit) would require primary legislation from the UK Parliament and possibly at regional level. Another panel member said that he suspected that there would be a legal challenge if the PM invoked Article 50 as an act subverting Parliament....the law is a fascinating space!
