Brevity is Beautiful!!!
Brevity is the Soul!!

Brevity is Beautiful!!!

"Kabootar ja ja ja...Pehle pyar ki pehli chithi....Saajan ko de aa" Song from the Movie-Maine Pyaar Kiya.?

The character wanted to express his Love and uses "Pigeons" to communicate messages, which were “Brief” and “Self Explanatory”

In the past, pigeons were indeed used as messengers, and their ability to deliver brief messages quickly was highly valued. These messages often contained crucial information that could save lives or provide important updates. We are now in the attention-de?cit economy, where the ability to focus on any one thing is below 10 seconds. Being brief is what’s desperately needed and rarely delivered. Mixed messages, Long presentations, Zoom meetings, and the never-ending sound of push notifications and emails are adding fuel to the fire. I wonder, when “Brevity” would be used as a tool for “Success” However, it's important to note that not all communication today lacks brevity. Platforms like Twitter, which limit the number of characters per message, encourage concise expression.?

Imagine you are thirsty and instead of giving you a glass of water, One gives you a “Fire Hose” This is how we feel every day, with an average of 304 emails/week, interruption every 8 Minutes and once interrupted, we take another 20 min to get in the flow, Unlock phone at least 150 times/day.

In today's digital age, information overload has become a significant challenge. We have access to vast amounts of information and communication channels, but the brevity and clarity of messages seem to have diminished. With the rise of social media, instant messaging, and email, there is a tendency to prioritise quantity over quality, leading to a loss of the essence of communication.

Below are a few reasons-

  1. Callousness: “This will only take a minute ” Haven’t you heard this, it always turns into an hour.
  2. Complication: “This is highly sensitive & important?and cannot be missed, Please bear with me.”

So, Next time organise your BRIEF as below

B: Beginning?

R: Reason ?

I: Information?

E: Ending?

F: Follow-up?

Most brands have understood the Power of Brevity, Example Nike-Just Do It, In one of my training sessions I was told the full form of KISS(Keep it Short and Simple)

In the end, it is up to us as individuals to prioritise brevity and ensure that our messages effectively convey their intended essence. By being mindful of the importance of clear and concise communication, we can strive to overcome the challenges posed by information overload and ensure that our messages are impactful and easy to act upon. Remember, The lesser you say the more you would be heard!!

So, What's the Key to Brevity? Elimination!
