I really like village garden open days....a great example of community action in aid of a good cause. Sunday and Monday was Bretherton's Open Gardens weekend. We escaped the worst of the downpours! The Moorhey Garden Railway was in action as an adjunct of Richard and Barbara's open garden at neighbouring Owl Barn. The Gauge 1 railway operated flawlessly, using 99.6001 as main motive power, with some rear-end assiatance (see pic). In addition to funds raised through the £5 entrance fee, additional donations for the railway meant a £50 contribution to the 'We Love Manchester Emergency Fund'. Villages in this area (Tarleton, Hesketh Bank) have been directly affected by the terrible events in Manchester on Monday night. Another open gardens day is happening on Sunday July 2nd and the garden railway will once again be running.
