Our crews just wrapped up an impressive three-week transmission line project near Cle Elum, WA for Puget Sound Energy, tackling critical maintenance along 60 miles of 230kV line through challenging mountain terrain. With teams putting in 14-16 hour days, seven days a week, and support from our eastern Montana Potelco partners, three dedicated crews replaced or repaired 22 major structures. Thanks to our hardworking teams and specialized equipment, we've successfully strengthened this vital power corridor, demonstrating once again our commitment to maintaining critical infrastructure no matter the challenge! ???????

Our team successfully completed the Smith-Hannegan Road Roundabout Project in Whatcom County for?Puget Sound Energy?(PSE). As the primary contractor, we managed an all-inclusive comprehensive project that encompassed both public improvement work and system upgrades. The project involved relocating 10 existing transmission poles to accommodate a transportation improvement project. We upgraded three of these poles to Glulam transmission poles with new 115kV Unitized transmission switches, a new technology for PSE. The most significant challenge was the impact on the Trans Mountain pipeline, a vital infrastructure that runs natural gas and other petroleum products across the system. To minimize disruption, we coordinated with Trans Mountain to schedule a planned outage for their infrastructure. Our dedicated crews worked tirelessly, putting in an impressive 22-hour straight shift to successfully complete this complex and time-sensitive work. Our team overcame this complex project by: ?Working closely with Trans Mountain?to determine the optimal window for the outage. ?Employing four separate crews?to work simultaneously and complete the work as efficiently as possible. ?Coordinating with?SEECO - Southern Electrical Equipment Company?representatives?from North Carolina to ensure a smooth installation and implementation of the transmission switches. Thanks to our team's expertise and efficient planning, we completed the project seven hours ahead of the initial 24-hour planned outage, showcasing the successful collaboration between our team, PSE,?K & D Services Inc.,?Barnhart Crane & Rigging, SEECO, and Whatcom County. This achievement not only demonstrates our dedication to delivering high-quality work and our commitment to customer partnerships, but also highlights our key role in this important infrastructure project for Whatcom County and PSE, furthering our mission to build energy infrastructure solutions that power modern life.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and it's an important time to shine a light on mental health challenges, especially in high-risk industries like construction. Did you know that the construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates among all occupations? Construction workers, including our Potelco linemen, are 3-4 times more likely to die by suicide compared to the general population. Our crews are more than just coworkers -?they?are a brotherhood. As your brothers' keepers, we take the mental health and well being of our employees seriously. We want to make sure everyone has access to the support and resources they need. If you or someone you know is struggling, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to provide a listening ear and connect you with professional help. Together, we can build a workplace culture that prioritizes mental health and starts to put an end to the construction industry's suicide crisis. If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide and you need to talk to someone now, call or text 988. You are NOT alone! ? #SuicidePreventionMonth #YouAreNotAlone

Principal Program Manager, Process Leader, & Project Professional at Puget Sound Energy

One of the smaller (toaster size small) New Tech Pilots I have been fortunate to be a part of leading at Puget Sound Energy has been the installation of Gridscopes by Gridware, an incredibly clever technology being leveraged not only for #wildfiremitigation, but #fault-location & #outagerestoration, and most importantly, safety of our crews. A few weeks ago we demonstrated the ease of installation of this new technology for some of our leaders with the help of our Service Provider, Potelco Inc I could not have asked for a better team to help partner with us. Want to learn more about it. Ask some of my amazing teammembers Alex Brotherston, P.E. Kelly Strand Kenneth Lulow all helping to bring us this incredible opportunity to improve #GridModernization *stock photo provided by Gridware

Potelco recently completed a critical upgrade to Puget Sound Energy's Baker-Shannon transmission line, a 115kV line stretching from Baker Dam on Baker Lake to the lower Baker Dam on Lake Shannon. This project, aimed at mitigating fire risks, involved replacing 38 structures or a total of 94 poles, stretching over 8.5 miles. Our team faced significant challenges, primarily due to difficult access. Due to their locations, all 38 structures required us to establish structure specific access routes, some in environmentally sensitive areas requiring the use of specialized tracked equipment to minimize impact. The most demanding aspect of the project involved three structures that were almost completely inaccessible by ground. For these, we employed helicopter assistance to fly in a total of nine poles. As part of the fire mitigation efforts, we implemented fire-resistant wrapping on the new structures, enhancing their resilience against potential wildfires. The project commenced in March and was successfully completed on schedule by the end of June. Our crews worked diligently to balance this upgrade with ongoing power generation and fish operations at the Baker facility. This upgrade significantly enhances the safety and reliability of the power grid in the area, particularly in terms of wildfire prevention. As the main contractor, Potelco is proud to have successfully executed this complex project, demonstrating our commitment to safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
