To explore the internal labyrinth of the mind, we should not work with the Psychology of the Dysfunctional. What is needed is a Psychology of Freedom, with the appropriate tools to find our own truth and help others to find theirs.’ Abraham Maslow.
Recently, a dear friend had her first Conscious Connected Breathing Session. She was thrilled with the experience and for days she was talking and sharing about it. It was such a pleasure to be explaining the phenomena of the process to her for some days in a row and, of course, it reminds me of my first sessions and training in the early nineties.
My, oh my, that was powerful. An hour or so of steady breathing, with energy in my lungs that I didn’t know I had, having been in and out of depression and a chain smoker for fourteen years.
Conscious Connected Breathing (CCB), is one of many techniques based on working with the breath, being a part of ‘Breathwork’, a more general term that encompasses many different techniques. Breathing is a life-sustaining activity that we practice instinctively from the moment we are born until the moment we die.
Among the many breathing techniques, CCB is also a somatic therapy. An hour-long session, using the breath rhythm of this technique, influences neural activity, enhances body memory recall and expands emotional awareness. It helps to release suppressed blockages from the autonomic nervous system and frequently reveals the causes of serious afflictions and traumas.
Emotional and mental wellbeing is an essential component in our lives and my interest is to utilise energy and time in the most integral way possible, so the restoration and the expansion of health happen dynamically and in-depth.
Since 1993, I have applied this breathing technique in many contexts, working with people going through difficult times in their lives, including recovery from addictions and the associated work with their family members and carers. I have found it to be very powerful in supporting and advancing the treatments since our bodies hold our traumas and yet are also able to self-heal.
Practising this distinctive style of breathing under supervision becomes a somatic therapy. The release of physical tension is the first effect, reframing negative and past experiences the second, completed by integration of the self. Breathwork can also create access to an altered state of consciousness, often leading to the experience of bliss and transcendence.
In summary, breathwork is a powerful process of self-development, whether in healing from light ailments or deeper ones, as in my case with depression. Also, it is wonderful in supporting the treatment of addiction. Our bodies hold our traumas and yet are also able to self-heal with the correct tools and guidance. Breathwork’s somatic response to the expression and release of repressed traumas can facilitate deep self-awareness. Furthermore, the self-empowerment of CCB's technique is both healing and sustainable. It can be used as a stand-alone therapy or as an add-on to medical treatment in support of recovery from different ailments, including addiction.
For me, a key parameter of Breathwork is the encounter with the freedom and the power of the self. We discover our breathing habits and learn how to transform them for our health and expansion in different areas of our lives.

Seven key aspects of CCB.
- Each individual finds their most adequate breathing rhythm.
- Learning to transform dysfunctional breathing habits by themselves.
- Stimulates the emergence of early childhood memories and more recent traumatic experiences.
- Creates access to forgotten inner spaces, possible healing from past traumas.
- Transforms “limiting personal beliefs” into new paradigms of perception.
- Creates awareness of better choices and greater personal freedom.
- Helps develop a deeper understanding of one's own personal nature?
There are many varieties of breathing techniques. Conscious Connected Breathing is the one I love, the one that healed me, the one I use in my training.
I really value the way the trained CCB breath worker's interventions are tailor-made for the client in each session and have the energy of "focused guidance" rather than duplicated systemic actions.
CCB uses two very human actions: breathing and thinking, resources that are already within the self. It recognises that body, mind, emotions and spirit are essentially interconnected and that changes to the state of one, cause changes to the others. Most common types of stress and mental discomfort are produced by physical, mental, emotional or spiritual experiences that were neither accepted nor integrated.

Breathwork’s advantages
- Permits the completion of traumatic experiences supporting us to understand, resolve and integrate them.
- Cultivates an “attitude of acceptance” of the cycles of our moods and awareness of our weaknesses and strengths.
- Materialises a consciousness of the Self beyond the form and the limitations of the personality.
- Creates Coherent Actions that match up internal Learning with Effective External Results.
- By Breathing into your vision with purpose, planned actions become smarter and easier.
- Breathing Consciously makes all the difference in your life and in the world.
- CCB becomes an effective tool in dissolving unhelpful habitual reactions.

The other element that I love is the freedom and the personal empowerment that this wonderful technique creates. After ten accompanied sessions with a professional, the client can take their accumulated knowledge away with them and continue to practice independently. The CCB technique trains them into an awareness of their own breathing which enables them to self-direct.
Learning awareness of the powerful influence of conscious breathing on body state and mind mood, combined with regular practice, gives us a trusted vehicle with which to create positive changes in our lives. Conscious Connected Breathing is a powerful technique for releasing habitual or addictive behaviour patterns that disrupt healthy relationships in family, at work or in play.??
I want to invite you all to explore and learn how the breathwork experience through the CCB leads us beyond the limitations of our habitual, defensive breathing rhythms triggered by pains and traumas during our early lives, especially in our childhood and teenage years. There is a Breath worker nearby you. If not let me know and I will find them for you.
Satisfaction in life reaches its maximum expression when breathing, feeling, thought and action dance to the same rhythm of the Breath.
Whether in a one-to-one meeting or in the boardroom, being aware and learning how to breathe consciously has proven to be the easiest and quickest way to empower individuals and to effectively manage stress.
“Stress and Relaxation cannot exist at the same time and at the same place”
Breathing consciously help to think more clearly and creatively, calm the nerves and get focus effectively on the purpose.
You are just a few breaths away from creating the level of peace, clarity and blissful energy that you may have never experienced before in your life.
