Breathing masks
Regular fliers have seen a compulsory demonstration by inflight attendants/cabin crew of the safety procedures in case of an unlikely event of an emergency. One of them is demonstrating a fall in pressure within the cabin during which a breathing mask pops from the overhead.
The instruction is to put on/wear your mask over the face before helping those who are struggling. This reminds me of real life situations when most individuals often deny themselves and help others. Safety is important and we should do what is within our means to extend a helping hand.?
There are numerous heroic actions that are reported or not reported in the media about selfless individuals who have risked their lives and even lost their lives as they try to save those in need. The decision is taken in a fraction of a second and mostly it is not for social media likes or benefits. In my opinion, it is unexplainable! There are situations that we can control. Others we cannot.?
The demonstration by the flight crew demonstrates self care. Unless you are in a better position, both of you might perish! Let’s go Biblical and look at Proverbs 25:21, Romans 12:20, Deuteronomy 22:4 and Matthew 5:41 where we are reminded to show love to our enemies and feed them when they are hungry. The underlying message is to overcome evil with good.?
This is not related to the example of the mask that pops out in an emergency but demonstrates what could be done in a time of need. By showing affection to your enemy, there is a human connection that cannot be explained. The same connection in time of grief where a universal tear falls off the eyes of even the toughest.?
President Franklin Roosevelt made reference to fire in a neighbor’s home. Would you part with a garden hose to help put out the fire? Many times, we are called upon to put out fires we did not start!?
In my high school, we were instructed? to wash a clean cup, cleaner.?
Selfless acts are not about how many clicks an individual would get from recording an incident and posting on social media instead of helping out. Would you feed a hungry neighbor, enemy or clothe them? Humanity is what we always need.
