Breathe!

Breathe!

It's not often I receive emails from vendors that are worth reading. This one was well worth the read. I hope you get out of it what I did. Thanks to my colleagues Glenn Odell and Greg Mennegar at SIS NW.

Hello Chris,

In our society, being “too busy” can come across like a wonderful virtue. I’ve even heard people almost brag about how busy they are. Yet I think most of us envy the Europeans for their shorter work days and seemingly endless weeks of holidays.

If you’d like some relief from your continual busy days here are some ideas:

·   Breathe

·   Leave on time

·   Check online less often

·   Believe in your worth

·   Reduce tedium

Next, let me explain!

Breathe Set notifications in your day to remind you to deep breathe, even if just for 30 seconds. Deep breathing is not just helpful for our well-being, it also allows us to come up “for air” and notice what tasks need attention and what can actually wait!

Leave on time Work studies show that it’s the rare person who is productive past eight hours, and even possibly past six hours. Chances are you are not the exception! More mistakes happen from longer hours than from short. So make overtime an exception, not the rule.

Check your email and text messages less often When we constantly check, we put ourselves into a state of hyper-activeness. Constantly checking and changing what we do increases stimulation and ultimately results in increased anxiety. The same is true for multi-tasking. When we continually change from doing one thing to the next thing, we make more mistakes, causing more work for later.

Believe in your worth When someone interrupts you at work, make sure it’s worth your energy. You have your job to do. You need to be able to go home on time. Ask if it can wait, or if they can make an appointment and group requests together.

Reduce tedium Know what you can change in the office and what you can’t. You don’t need to do the repetitive, tedious work. Give it to SIS NW. We are experts in making offices run smoother, faster, and for less cost.

Best wishes,

Greg Mennegar, Sr. VP, Sales and Marketing

So powerful. Killing some time browsing on my phone before a big presentation that I was struggling with. Saw your single word comment. WOW! Exactly what was needed. A few deep breaths and I was good to go. Thanks Chris. On the money...as usual. Jon
