Breast foot forward
Pink has been everywhere I go lately. That is of course because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so across the world charities, health organisations, companies and the general public have been mobilised to raise money and awareness.
It’s all too easy to be cynical about the sea of pink that washes over October. Every year we hear the usual questions about whether it masks commercial motives or makes light of a serious issue. But if having fun and putting breast cancer on the radar has the positive impact of raising money, gaining cut-through and increasing awareness then I personally applaud every effort.
As a father, husband, and CEO of ‘the company for women’ I am proud of Avon’s leading role in shining a spotlight on breast cancer through our Breast Cancer Promise. Our commitment is that every woman knows the signs, the symptoms and how to take action. Because in the 21st century no-one should be left in the dark about breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a high point in the year at Avon where we bring communities together across the world. We’ve had tens of thousands of people walking at events from Brazil to South Africa; a concert in Romania; building illumination in the Philippines and the UK, education sessions all over the world; people taking selfies to show their commitment to breast health awareness.
All pink and a lot of fun. But do not misinterpret the seriousness of our intention. We are deadly serious. Because breast cancer is a deadly disease.
So a big shout out and congratulations to anyone who has been out there this month wearing pink, walking pink, talking pink. I applaud you.

6 年The pink month is so important in raising awareness, still too many women are dying from this awful disease. However, a little touch of blue should maybe be added, as I don't think many men are aware that they can also get breast cancer.
