Breaking up with LinkedIn

Breaking up with LinkedIn

It's April 1st, and yes, we have seen some incredible April Fools campaigns today from the big brands! But before you hit "unsubscribe" in a fit of confusion, hear me out.

Breaking News: I'm Leaving LinkedIn... for TikTok!?

That's right! Apparently, my thought-provoking business insights and dazzling dance moves (me sitting in a chair) have captivated the hearts (and thumbs) of Gen Z on TikTok. Apparently, "explain Marketing Strategies through interpretive jazz" is a viral hit! Who knew? (Spoiler alert: I may have made that up...)

But Seriously, Folks...

While LinkedIn is a fantastic platform for professional connections and B2B marketing, let's face it – social media is a diverse landscape. There's a place for the power suits and polished presentations, but also for a little lighthearted fun!

The Power of Experimentation:

Today's April Fools joke highlights an important point: Don't be afraid to experiment with different social media platforms for your SME. Just like exploring new marketing tactics or content formats, venturing beyond your comfort zone on social media can be a recipe for success. Are you gonna be a success in everything you do? Good lord no! But will it help you? Absolutely!

Have I gotten viral yet? Mnope. Will I continue to post? You know I will!

Btw - wondering what "massive investment" I had to make in order to make those videos? Two night-lights with different temperature bulbs on either side of my face and my phone filming me on a little stabilizer I had bought ages ago (the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 for those interested). Where did I edit the videos? Well if you watched any of them you'll see I barely edited them other than adding some captions as my laptop was broken all week so I did all of my editing through the TikTok app itself. Was it hard? A bit, but definitely easy enough to do what I did without much training.

Think about your target audience: Where are they hanging out online? What kind of content resonates with them? By diversifying your social media presence, you can reach new audiences and expand your brand awareness. For example - You, right here are my target audience. You're the Marketers and Founders I'm looking for. Not because I'm selling you anything but because you have the attention span to stay with me for an entire newsletter! What have I learned from TikTok and Instagram however? Well, other than definitely needing to learn how to dance, I should for sure include more videos of my parrot and my dogs (people do seem to dieeee for the cutest pets in the world - I will fight you on this and send pictures as proof)!

But Don't Spread Yourself Too Thin:

While exploring new platforms is great, focus on quality over quantity. Maintain a consistent brand voice and messaging across your chosen platforms, even if the content style adapts slightly to fit the platform's culture. For example, I went with a more serious take in the videos I created - it paid off initially, we're in the usual slump after a week of posting to see whether I will continue posting regardless and I am utilizing the fact that I now have 4 different social media accounts on TT and IG in order to mix up the strategies on each!

So, the Real Takeaway:

I'm not ditching LinkedIn anytime soon (phew!). I know, I know - I'm sorry if it has caused any of you to start popping your heart medication an hour earlier than expected! This lighthearted prank is a reminder to embrace creativity, experiment with new marketing strategies, and always have a little fun along the way!

Stay tuned for our next newsletter!

Linkedin it's the only platform I use..My favourite Lenard Adanov ??Unfortunately, I get a lot of "passive aggressive" hijack to some of my posts at times. Even tough, they are strictly professionals. Some people are quite self entitled. It's OK to share your opinion but always with class ????????
