Breaking Up with Black Friday: A December Reflection on Deals and Decisions
Every year, it’s the same story. My inbox becomes a battlefield, assaulted by subject lines screaming “Best Deal EVER!” and “You NEED this NOW!” Spoiler: I don’t need another air fryer, even if it’s 50% off and comes in rose gold.?
But somehow, they almost get me. Almost.
Here we are—the first week of December, the last month of the year. The sales frenzy has finally slowed, and the dust from all those “too good to be true” deals is starting to settle. Yet I can’t help but feel like the noise lingered long after the discounts ended. It has me thinking about how we’re sold to—not just by retailers, but in life and work, too.
A Year-End Reality Check
Looking back on the year, I’ve realized how easy it is to get caught up in the flash and forget what matters. It’s not about how many “deals” you snagged—it’s about making intentional choices that fit your needs. Because let’s be honest: when was the last time a 24-hour sale paused to ask if you needed what it offered?
And that’s the difference. For me, it’s never about having the “best deal” but finding the right one—the solution that fits, feels good, and brings actual value.
How I Choose to “Sell”
When I work with buyers or solve problems in healthcare, I reject the Black Friday approach. No loud pitches, no pressure, no “act fast before it’s gone!” Instead, I focus on authenticity and thoughtful communication. I want to understand the unique needs, individualized challenges, and ultimatelythe goals—not just throwing solutions in hopes one sticks.

It’s not about rushing decisions. It’s about building trust and delivering the right fit, not the fastest one.
Closing Reflection
As we head into the final stretch of the year, I invite you to take a pause. Step away from the noise and reflect on what truly matters—whether it’s the decisions you’ve made, the relationships you’ve built, or the goals you’re still chasing.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not the flashiest option that brings value; it’s the one that’s thoughtful, intentional, and just right. And that’s how I choose to show up—not just in December, but every month of the year.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a few more sales emails to delete. And .. probably a few glittered and bedadzzed items I bought absent mindly to return.?
I am human, after all.
