Breaking Through Uncertainty

Certainty?is the emotion that empowers us to accomplish what once seemed impossible. It expands our capacity to achieve, lead and serve and is a resource we can access quickly.

At the same time, when you think about the opposite of?certainty, uncertainty, you may think it produces fear, worry, and doubt.?

The truth is that uncertainty has proven to be as crucial as certainty when leading a happy and fulfilled life. The paradox is that uncertainty can be a launching pad that enables us to experience new thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, ultimately growing us into whom we are meant to be.

It appears that the quality of a person’s life matches the amount of uncertainty they can comfortably live with.

Here are four things you can do to shift your thinking and breakthrough uncertainty:

  1. Focus your energy on things you?can?control: your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Do this, and you will feel empowered and confident instead of anxious and stressed.
  2. Embrace change instead of hiding from it. Take responsibility for your circumstances. However, please realize that you only have control over your internal self, not the external world. We cannot control what happens in the world, but we can choose how we react.
  3. Create a vision for what it is that you genuinely want.?It must be compelling, something that you desire more than anything else. It should not be an outcome that you have to push yourself towards. Instead, your desired outcome should function like gravity and pull you toward it.
  4. Now that you have your vision and dedicated yourself to reaching this outcome, you need to find your?purpose for achieving it. When dealing with uncertainty, keeping your purpose front and center is crucial.

The opportunities in life reside on the opposite side of uncertainty. To get to the other side, we must rise above the obstacle—fear, helplessness, frustration, and anger—that prevent us from getting to the other side.

To live a happy and purposeful life, we must see uncertainty for what it is, dare to tackle it, and have the courage to endure in a world that is mostly beyond our control.
