Breaking Through, Together, in the Fight Against Cancer
Bob Bradway
I’m excited to be leading Amgen as we harness dramatic advances in science and technology to serve patients suffering from serious diseases.
On World Cancer Day, let’s pause to reflect on the nearly 10 million lives lost every year to this disease around the world. Thanks to innovative medicines, more people are winning their individual battles against cancer than ever before, but the war is far from won. If we are going to defeat cancer once and for all, we need greater awareness, improved screening and prevention, more new medicines, and better access for patients to those new treatments.
It’s appropriate that the theme of World Cancer Day 2021 is “Together, All Our Actions Matter,” since bringing cancer to heel requires joint action by governments, healthcare professionals, patient advocates, academia, and private industry. As an innovator in human biotechnology, Amgen contributes especially by developing and bringing to patients new medicines for difficult-to-treat cancers. Today, one in four cancer patients in the U.S. takes an Amgen medicine, and we have a number of potential new therapies in development. Among these are an investigational treatment for lung and other cancers expressing the KRAS-G12C mutation, and investigational bispecific T-cell engager or BiTE? molecules targeting various liquid and solid tumors.
By unleashing the power of science and the ingenuity of our researchers, Amgen joins the global cancer community in #breakingthroughtogether against a devastating illness that, in one or another way, touches all of us. Click here to learn more about Amgen Oncology.
