Breaking Through Barriers: How to Make 'Not Possible' a Reality

In our roles as Product Managers working with OEMs, we frequently hear the assertion, 'this is not possible.' Yet our commitment to integrating our services into an ever-expanding fleet of vehicles leaves no room for impossibility. Transforming 'not possible' into reality within a vast organization can feel akin to assembling a jigsaw puzzle without a reference image. But with determination and strategic insight, we navigate these complexities, turning impossibilities into tangible solutions. Here's how we do it:

  • Understanding the Complexity: Gaining a clear understanding of the organization's structure is paramount. Identifying departments, roles, and interconnections provides a roadmap for maneuvering through complex challenges.
  • Identifying the Key Pieces: Seeking the right individuals, technologies, and processes that align with the goals is the next step. It's about finding the essential pieces that, together, complete the puzzle and lead to a successful solution.
  • Building Relationships: Establishing connections and cultivating relationships across various levels of the organization is more than mere networking; it's about recognizing and addressing the interests of potential allies who can provide invaluable support.
  • Assembling the Solution: With the right pieces in place, the focus shifts to weaving them together into a cohesive solution. It demands persistence, collaboration, and innovation to make the picture complete.
  • Reflecting on the Journey: Each successful resolution not only resolves the issue at hand but also reinforces strategic thinking, collaboration, and perseverance. The journey from 'this is not possible' to 'we have a solution' imparts essential lessons for future endeavors.

In all of our roles, whether as Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, or in other positions, we often face statements declaring something as 'not possible'. Employing a well-crafted approach, unyielding determination, and a steadfast belief that every problem has a solution waiting to be found allows us to create the alchemy that turns 'not possible' into reality. This mindset is vital for our individual roles and fosters a culture where the impossible becomes attainable.

Quite insightful Manuel Allgaier. Identifying the key pieces and looking up for the right professionals & processes to “complete the puzzle” is something that deeply resonates for me as a UXUI Designer. Nonetheless, once the requirements and the big picture are clear the finding and aligning with “the matching pieces” becomes more and more intuitive.
