As we continue to monitor the financial outlook both around the country as well as in smaller Florida markets, what caught our eye might’ve been more focused towards a wider audience. On the night of February 7th, LeBron James broke a 38-year-old record, at the age of 38, for the most points scored in an NBA career, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 38,388 points. After 20 seasons of incredibly hard work, athletic ability, and pursuit of perfection has led to this potentially crowning achievement for who many consider to be one of the greatest basketball player of all-time. With great accomplishment comes great photographs, and one is being cemented as an all-time photo for NBA fans.?

This photo of the shot that broke the record is an incredible angle of the action, and the hundreds of fans behind the basket, but if you look closely, you see an older man sitting front row, Phil Knight, co-founder and CEO of Nike. Almost every fan is looking at the action through a cellphone, hoping to capture a picture or video, but Phil Knight is enjoying the moment through his own two eyes.?

Phil Knight was already a visionary in the entrepreneurial space, but his ability to go away from the common trends are exactly why his experience of this moment was so much greater, well that and his courtside seats.

In today’s day and age, people are so concerned about what everyone else thinks, and what everyone else is doing, whether that’s through social media or a greater media presence. This is true across the board in life where if your decision is unpopular, it will likely be criticized. When Phil Knight identifies a great moment like LeBron passing Kareem, he seizes it himself. When you identify an opportunity, you can (and should) be concerned with interest rates and inflation, but often those who go against the?grain find the most success. Whoever can swim upstream, by identifying and capitalizing on an opportunity is who will succeed through difficult economies.?
