Breaking Out of Your Perception Box

Your emotions manipulate your experiences

We are all living inside our own perception box. If you're in a negative headspace, you're going to start perceiving more negative things in your environment. Fortunately, none of us are trapped in our ways of thinking. However extreme a perception may be, there's always a way to reset our thoughts for the better.

I learned this lesson early in my career, and it profoundly changed how I approached work and relationships. At the time, I was consumed by work, routinely putting in 12-hour days and going years without a vacation. In my mind, anyone who didn't match my intense work ethic or share my values was simply wrong. This narrow perspective left me constantly frustrated with my colleagues' seemingly lack of motivation.

It took numerous conflicts and some much-needed coaching for me to realize a crucial truth: the people I worked with weren't less dedicated - they simply had different motivations and priorities. This epiphany led me to understand that to be an effective leader and colleague, I needed to comprehend and respect these differing perspectives.

As I began to align my approach with my team members' individual motivations and values, a remarkable shift occurred. Those I had once viewed as inadequate became invaluable in my eyes. I started to appreciate the diverse strengths each person brought to the table, recognizing that our collective differences were actually our greatest asset.

When we finally united behind a shared vision the results were nothing short of amazing. Not only did we accomplish great things, but we also enjoyed the process. This experience taught me that true success comes not from enforcing a single perspective, but from harmonizing diverse viewpoints towards a common vision.

Remember, we're all a work in progress , and there's always room for change. By recognizing negative perceptions we can reset our thoughts for the better and unlock new potentials in ourselves and those around us.
