Breaking News! Recruiters really do want to hire you!

Fresh into the job market and learning from others that went before me, I somehow ended up with the belief that recruiters are mean and evil and don't really want to hire people. They just want to waste the time of job seekers and be mean to us during the recruitment process.
How wrong I was.
Now that I am actually in the game, I have found that we recruiters actually want to and need to hire good people. Note that emphasis was placed on 'good people'.
Whilst recruiting for a position sometime ago, I found it difficult to short-list a lot of candidates because they lacked the relevant skills necessary for the role. This was a lot disappointing and even worse was the fact that amongst the few people who were short-listed, fewer still, passed the test.
You see, I had said a little prayer when the test was going on, hoping that most of them would pass it. But alas! My heart sank as I marked the scripts as I realised that a lot of them had failed.
Leaving me with just a few people to attend the interviews.
My point. When recruiters do not find good people, they are forced to go round and round in circles. This is very tiring and annoying and we hate to have to do this. But we also cannot compromise. We MUST find good people.
And now I probably hear you saying: "I am a good person. I am the right candidate". This is fantastic. Now you just have to prove it to us that you really are. I will share a few ways in which I think that you can prove this to us:
1. Start from having a VERY GOOD CV that SELLs you well. Along with a well-written cover letter that builds nicely into the CV.
2. Apply for the right jobs and do not use one generic CV for all positions. Your CV must be tailored to the job description, highlighting your areas of strength and proving to the recruiter that they need to meet you personally. Even if you apply via a job portal, your voice can still be heard in the midst of the thousands of applications. You can still separate yourself from the pack by ensuring that you are very detailed and thorough in the application. Adhere to all instructions given in the application.
3. Prepare well for the next stages of the recruitment process because if you do 1 and 2 above, you will get called most of the time. If there is to be a test, prepare and ensure you give in your very best. Do same at interviews.
4. Relax...wait for your offer and thank me later! ;)
All the best!
P.S.
I am considering setting up a group where we can have open discussions regarding unemployment issues. What do y'all think? Good or Bad Idea?

8 年Setting up such a group for intercommunication and thought transmission between a professional HR and the active job seekers would highlight recruitment bottlenecks and completely reposition many people for successful job offers and also ease up the round and round circles of recruitment process for the recruiters. It's a fantastic idea. Good stuff.
